Directors Message
Shelly Winters Black
I would like to thank everyone that have contributed to the success of the Miss Camellia
City Pageant. As we celebrate the 1st year, I look to the future with great hope and ex-
citement. Pageantry is a positive and rewarding hobby that can lead to great things! It
helps the contestant develop their individuality at the same time, learn the secretes to
winning the crown. As a former contestant, the skills that I have learned through the art
of competition has been a tremendous influence for
my career as a pageant director. Titles that I have
won over the years were Mrs. Gretna 1993, Mrs.
Kenner 1994, Mrs. Jefferson Parish 1995, Mrs. Or-
leans Parish 1996, The journey to the CROWN has
been filled with many positive points and the friend-
ships have been the most rewarding thing that I take
away from the field of Pageantry.

In 1992 I began my Journey To The Crown as a con-
testant in the Mrs. Louisiana America Pageant and met the woman that became my men-
tor and spiritual inspiration. Mary West, was the reigning Mrs. La and was giving up her
title. She became the state director for both Miss New Orleans and Mrs. La America Pag-
eants. Our friendship continues to strengthen and has blessed my life in so many ways!
